Camping

My boys like to play with L.E.G.O a lot. They have tons of bricks and pieces and they are building, building, building with the little version. But most creative and imaginative they are playing with the bigger small kids version. They have two special boy figures and they are inventing adventures with them. Surely those two have to come with us on vacation.
Guess what we are doing in our vacation:
You are right! I am crazy: I made a tent for some l-e-g-o figures!
Had been fiddly - and fun!
You can close the door with velcro from inside or ty it up with the ribbon. The whole tent is stabilized by two arcs (I used the bows of an old bra :-). In the corners you fix it with four nails to the ground.
Inside the tent there is nothing. The future inhabitants have to bring some pieces of fur to sleep on. Looks confortable, doesn't it?
And now I am off for three weeks!
Wish you all a very pleasant summer and relaxing vacation if you have any.
SU again in middle of August!

bientôt en août!
bonne vacances,

More boats

Normally I don't like at all to make two times the same, but as I had a lot of the "water"-fabric of this project left and our good child likes it a lot, I decided to make her also a blanket like that.
Actually only the fabric I used for the water is the same as for the last blanket. For the sky I found an other woven blanket on the flea market that fits perfect. Only now I have a new leftover of that fabric :-) Somehow it isn't easy to reduce the fabric stack.
The paper print I used last time for the boats had been too thick and the application had been a nightmare, so this time I used a patchwork coton fabric that has handwriting on it. The piecing and the application had been much easier.
I quilted some randomly wavy lines and rolling waves in the water area and some wide slopes in the sky.
The batting is light and for the back I took a light blue molleton fabric - very cosy! The finished size is 110cm x 175cm.
And now the blanket is on its way to a ninth birthday in northern Germany and digitally on its way to this link-party that is only for maritime crafting. I think this one is as maritime as it can be.

White pigeons

I made two pigeons of wood and painted them.
They are looking happy in our apple tree, with no apples :-(

I cut out the pieces with a pad saw and glued together the two pieces. After painting you can't see the seams any more.
I made the birds for an uncle who passed away some weeks ago. My aunt can let them fly in his memory in their garden. I hope she likes the idea.
I know it is normally white pigeons for occasions like that, but I gave mine some brown feathers to look a little more interesting.
Doesn't you also get a light and more happy feeling when you see birds flying? For me it works ...

concealing stains

From the death-scull on the T-shirt I made for my son (see last post), I still had the piece of freezer paper that I cut out when making the template. Of course it is also in the form of a scull. Spontaneously I used it to decorate a T-shirt of my husband, which had some weird orange spots on it that do not vanishing even after several treatments.
There had been three little spots too. You can guess where.
I think it is funny, but I am not sure my husband will wear it. At least not at work. Maybe in winter with a shirt over it? He told me this morning, that the spots had been less visible :-) "Yes darling, but spots are spots and this is more fun!"

Too hot for clothes

The last 10 days we have been suffering with the heat. The garden is getting dry and dryer and brown, where I can't/won't water and we are hiding in the house during the day when possible. The most clothes are too hot to wear. I made some very light jersey shorts for my boys. They like to wear them day and night now, so I guess I have to make some more. Two per son might be not enough!

I am not sure why the taller one is blue on his belly, it's not the fabric that stains.
For my younger one I made a pair from a lovely Rhino-Fabric. I bought it even when I thought my kids are too old for it, but no: number 2 loves it.

I took the lillesol basic pattern for sloppy-trousers that I use normally for pyjamas and shortened the legs. It seems to me that they are very comfortable. (I have been playing with the idea to make some for me too, but fear that I might look funny in'em)
I made another pair for a girl, but it left the house so fast I didn't had the time to make a photo. A pity as I painted very nice flowers on it.

I have been quite busy sewing kids summer clothes. Some for my 9month niece and some for the 8month son of friends.
And one of my boys got a T-Shirt also. I though it is too stripy and I painted a death scull with the freezer-paper-technic, that I tried first last year here.

It is very windy today and I hope for some refreshing rain!

Manikins with hat

Do you know that there are sometimes little manikins with hats having fun in your garden plants? I catched them once ...
Have a great garden weekend. (Here it is nearly too hot to be in the garden or somewhere else outside)

Bonne weekend,
